Snow reflects on a successful event at the Gartner IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Summit

Snow Software today applauded the success of the recent Gartner IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Management Summit, held in London on September 11th and 12th. The event saw over 300 delegates from mid-to-large enterprises across EMEA come together to learn more about the latest IT management trends as well as meet with key software and services vendors.

Key among the takeaways from the event was the report from analysts that specialist Software Asset Management (SAM) tools vendors like Snow Software are taking away market share from the larger, broader IT Asset Management (ITAM) solutions that fail to offer customers effective ways to manage their software and license entitlements. Snow Software was confirmed as one of the most feature-rich SAM tools available for organizations that need to manage heterogeneous environments and complex licensing schemes.

Axel Kling, CEO of Snow Software, attended the event: "This year is the first year that I felt Gartner fully recognized the importance of dedicated solutions for SAM and how they are usually a breed apart from the more generalist ITAM tools. From the conversations I had with both analysts and end users at the summit, it was clear that organizations no longer view license management as purely a compliance issue; they recognize that cost management has to be the major driver."

This view was reinforced by the popularity of Snow CTO, Peter Bjorkman's seminar on how the Cloud and other new provisioning technologies will alter the focus of SAM. Traditional ITAM technologies and methodologies will no longer be sufficient to track application usage or infrastructure deployments, so organizations will need to turn to specialist solutions that offer these capabilities.

At the same time, the Gartner IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Management Summit once again suggested a continued rise in vendor audits, with anecdotal evidence that 2013 audits will show yet another year-on-year increase. With vendors like Oracle becoming increasingly active with reviews and audits, the event highlighted again that many ITAM tools offer little or no assistance to organizations when it comes to collecting and reviewing the information necessary to manage complex licensing schemes.

In addition to speaking at the event, Snow Software took the opportunity to showcase its industry-leading Snow License Manager and Inventory SAM solutions.
