Snow Software announces collaboration with Red Hat to help open source users optimize their software investments

6th October 2015, Stockholm: Snow Software, the market-leading developer of hosted and on-premised Software Asset Management (SAM) solutions, today announced a collaboration with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, to bring Snow’s SAM capabilities to organizations that use open source software.

As part of the collaboration, Snow’s development and software recognition teams worked closely with Red Hat to help improve the recognition and management of Red Hat software and subscriptions, giving end-users the ability to manage Red Hat subscriptions in the same software license optimization solution used to manage other publishers and software.  For Red Hat, collaboration with Snow offers greater confidence that customer licensing information is accurate.

Petra Heinrich, vice president, EMEA Partners and Alliances, Red Hat, explained the customer benefits of the project: “By working with the team at Snow, we’ve been able to help them implement a number of software recognition improvements.  The Red Hat Subscription Education and Awareness Program team is now able to use Snow License Manager to help generate reports that meet the teams’ specific business process requirements.”

Snow CTO, Peter Björkman, added: “We already have a number of joint customers and partners that can benefit immediately from the work we have undertaken with our colleagues at Red Hat. It also opens the door to more organizations that have not traditionally embraced SAM technologies to help them manage and optimize their software investments.”

The enhancements to the Linux software recognition are immediately available to Snow customers, thanks to Snow’s dynamic delivery of software recognition updates to on-premise and hosted platforms. Further enhancements will be focused on bringing greater reporting capabilities to Red Hat subscriptions, due to be released as an update for Snow License Manager using the automatic update service.
